Which small dog in this list is very good with children at a 12 years old? My 12 years old male cousin wants a dog that is small and very good with children, very easy to house train, and very AAADDDOOORRRAAABBBLLLEEE!!!He wants one from these lists. Here is the list: http://www.dog-breeds.net/small_dog_breeds.htm What breed of dog is in the picture that's in the square: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/NavResults.cfm?N=2001+113994
Which breed of dog would fit in well with my family? My wife would like to get a dog. We lead an active lifestyle and would like a smaller dog to accompany us. We run almost daily (up to 3 miles a day, sometimes more), mountain bike, hike and generally hang in the outdoors as often as possible. We have a fairly small house but a nice sized, enclosed yard (just smaller than a 1/4 of an acre). We have two very friendly indoor cats (fixed males 2 and 3 years old) and while we have no kids I can see them coming into the picture within the next year or two. I am familiar with the training of dogs having grown up with an Australian Shepard that was an amazing dog who required a lot of attention. My wife is set on a Terrier (she wants either a Jack Russell or a Norwich) but I'm worried about how well they'll get along with the cats. I have never been a fan of Golden Retrievers, Lab's or German Shepards, nor do we really want a dog that big. So, what do all you dog people out in Yahoo Answers land think? Again, no Labs...It's not that they are bad dogs I just don't like them. Sorry, even though I've known some sweet Pit Bulls, I've heard far to many horror stories. I could just be buying into a stereotype but I won't take the risk with my other pets, my friends and future kids. The Cairn Terriers look interesting and my wife now informs me she likes Border Terriers and Beagles now. Go figure.
help me choose a breed type of dog and website with types/pictures? I would like to get a dog. I not really know of many kinds. Heres all the info : 1. I live with 4 people in a house with no backyard. 2. We want a dog that is either tiny up to small-medium (not big) 3. Needs to be loving, not too hyper,Not bark a lot, personality, (I know a lot of types of dogs can be trained to be like that but are there some breeds that are easier to to train from the start with those qualities?) 4. Cute. (my mom doesn't like the ones with the droopy faces or slobber) 5. I dont want to spend more than $600 I'd like to be able to walk fast and maybe jog with the dog as well. (I like french bull dogs. and those little tiny Scottish terriers? how are their personalities?) Wow, thanks everyone! that was quick ! great info ;)
Help me find a dog like this? Okay so me and my mother have been talking and since she isn't a very big dog person, but agreed to get a dog for Christmas we need a small dog. A dog that doesn't shed or bark that loud... And one that doesn't pee too much, because I have school and she has work and no one else is in the house for basically 6 hours... Can you please help me find a breed [kind of] like this? And pictures/links would be great, Thanks Okay okay sorry. It's just because my friend has a dog and she says that they don't pee as much... I don't know. And I think we can handle the work. Dammit ok. So fine, just a dog that doesn't shed much (and one that doesn't have TOO much energy...)
What dog breed is this? I visited a friend last year and there was the best dog at his house! He was medium-small about 35-45 lbs (he stood on all fours and was at the height of my knees, I am 5'7), he was all black with maybe some little white markings, had very smooth silky short fur (like a lab), but a longer thinner nose/snout than a lab more like a hound nose....I want to say he was a border collie or sheltie but the coat was very short, not like those dogs. He just had the sweetest personality and sat there and licked my hand for about 35 minutes. His ears were floppy and short, not pointy or long....I have looked at every picture at the AKC website and can't match him...I no longer have contact with this friend so I can't ask him. I think he might be a hybrid but not a mutt because I remember my friend naming a breed when I asked...Also, he was very active and went hiking daily with the owner so he is a high energy dog. He looked like a mini black lab with more dainty face and feet. I don't need people trashing others who refer to two pure breed dogs mated together to make a new breed as "hybrids" rather than "mutts". Hybrids, unlike mutts are from two purebred parents...mutts are 2+ different breeds with no known heritage. I also dont need advice on where to spend my money or what to spend it on...so if you have a real answer to my question please post it but if you want to debate dog breeding take your self elsewhere Wasn't a pointer, much smaller and the nose much narrower. Thanks though! Quite possibly a small (runty) female short haired border collie
Looking for a small breed hypoallergenic puppy? I'm thinking of getting a puppy and was hoping for a some advice or suggestions from other pet owners. I've listed a few of the guidelines I've been considering as I look. 1. Hypoallergenic 2. Little to no shedding 3. toy or small size (under 10 pounds) 4. I live in an apartment with little yard (so something that requires little outdoor exercise and doesn't bark all the time) 5. Doesn't require much grooming 6. pure or mixed breed 7. Easy or fairly easy to train (especailly house training) I'm looking for a companion/lap dog that doesn't mind riding in cars and is good with other dogs and children. I would appreciate any suggestions. Also, I've looked at a few different mixed breeds (like the papi-poo and yorkie-poo) but can't find any pictures of what they look like as adults. Any suggestions?
Help Me Get My Dog Back Law Enforcement Not Helping? I thought I had lost my 3-year-old Boston Terrier 18 months ago. I put up posters talked to neighbors offered reward called the radio station.Never gave up.Then a week ago my daughter in-law found her at a house about ten miles from me, the lady's mother lives next door to me.She stopped and asked her about the dog and told her that she knows who the dog belongs to.The lady told her to leave, my daughter in-law called me. On the way to the house I called the sheriff who met me there, I brought pictures of my dog and shot record and told him that my dog is easy to idenfy because she is not muscular like the Boston Terrier breed she is very lean and slender and has a small stripe between her eyes. The dog was given to me so no sale papers and is not pure breed. She would not open the door to talk to law enforcement for three days, then she called the sheriff and said to talk to her lawyer, if they came back to her house, she would file harassment on them. Now they will not do anything.
How to stop my dog from peeing at home and what breed is she?(picture)? I adopted a saluki/shepherd mix a few days ago but he turned out to be too hyper and wouldn't settle down so fortunately my cousin wanted to get a dog and I need a smaller one. My cousin is going to take the one I had and I am getting another one. I didn't want to give him back but my mom said that a dog of his size and energy was too much and she wouldn't allow it at home but she said she would allow a smaller dog. I am so happy the saluki mix is still going to have a home and with my cousin so I can see him a lot. Anyways I am going to pick up the other dog today but when I saw her the other day I noticed that as soon as the vet brought her in the viewing room she peed. I expect she will be doing this at my house too and I just want to know how I can prevent this from happening. Also, what breed do you think she is? I know I already asked about the breed but I forgot to add her age and I think it made a difference. ...continued here is her pic: http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc272/Echelon30Believer/cutie_desert_rose.jpg http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc272/Echelon30Believer/desert_rose_2.jpg She is 3 years old and had 3 puppies that were all adopted...do you have any idea what breed she is? Many answers suggested she was part husky and part malamute, then why is she so small? She is not that large. A little below knee height and bigger than jack russell by a little bit. She weighs approximately 24 pounds
What breed mixes are my dogs? http://s102.photobucket.com/albums/m112/gosney1108/ The link is to some pictures of them. We got them both from the pound. We were told the black one is an australian shepherd mix, we believe with some kind of hound dog (ie the big floppy ears, large paws, deep howl and bark and tendency to chase and kill small animals from the woods behind our house). The white one definitely looks like a jack russell terrier, but she is significantly bigger than an average one. Her black spots kind of threw us off, too. I thought dalmatian, but I'm open to your opinions! The black one is also much bigger than an aussie. She's about 80 pounds, the white one is about 40-45. And they are both 4 years old. sorry bout that, i didn't realize it was private. i changed it.
Dog aggression (a specific scenario) ? My aunt in China has 3 dogs in her house (a Tibetan Mastiff, A German Shepard, and one other breed, can't remember the name, she's the smallest one of all. We'll call her Dudu). So Dudu came first to the family. Several years later the Mastiff and German Shepard joined the family. At first everything was harmonic until one day... Ok... so when my uncle comes home everyday he greets the 3 dogs in order and he always picks up Dudu first. However, one day he came home a little drunk and greeted the German Shepard first (the shepard somehow got in front of Dudu. Dudu was jealous and bit the German Shepard. That angered the German Shepard and she first bit my uncle and then all 3 dogs plus 2 people (my aunt and uncle) got into a fight (yea, picture that). So ever since then every time the German Shepard sees Dudu she will attack and bit Dudu like crazy. Poor Dudu now has wounds everywhere. My aunt has no other choice but to separate the two (Dudu inside the house, Shepard outside). I wonder, for all the animal behavior experts out there... can the Shepard's behavior be corrected? I know that they are not willing to give up neither of them. But can they live happily ever again? This is why I only have a Bengal cat in the family. No dog fights. =P Thanks! I think it's 100% jealousy. My uncle goes on business trips a lot so when he is not home my aunt is the only one breaking off the fight. According to her the fights are pretty intense. Therefore I don't think a water gun will solve the problem. I'll def ask her to try though (but I think she's too scared to let the 2 dogs meet each other again now). All 3 dogs are female.
Does anyone want a wonderful German Shepherd? She's a German Shepherd, spayed, one year old. She is housetrained, UTD on HW and flea/tick preventative, and she doesn't chew on anything but her toys. She is healthy, and current on shots. She's loyal, affectionate, and protective, and knows obedience commands in German. She needs to be an ONLY dog, as she is not getting along with the other dog or the cats in my house. There was a dog fight yesterday, and I realized that I can't keep both dogs, and I figured the GSD would have a better chance at finding a new home than the mixed breed mutt. Her only other problem is that sometimes she will bark and lunge at the leash when she sees another dog, but she is getting better, and with some work, she should stop that behavior completely. A small adoption fee applies, and I'd prefer to meet any potential adoptors to make sure she is a good fit for their family. Pictures are available upon request. I live in the Tuscaloosa, AL area. Thanks! I've already contacted the local GSD rescue group, but they may not take her, because she's not a papered purebred. I've got an ad on craigslist; thanks for the suggestion! If I had the means to keep them separated, I would, but I work 24 hour shifts, and it's impractical to expect either dog to be happy in that situation. Did I mention that the GSD nearly killed the other dog? I don't feel safe around her anymore... (and she tried to kill my kitten twice!)
any idea of the breed? The small female pup was dropped outside my house this afternoon and i came home to her and decided to that i am going to keep her anyone have any ideas what breed she may be? i know she most likely is a mixed breed but i cannot match her to any dogs i know of thank you for any help in advance pictures are posted at the link below . http://www.psychotic-desires.com/junemarie/
Does anyone own a Cane Corso????????? Or have you ever owned one? I am getting a three year old female from a friend of mine who has ended his breeding program. She has been socialized well with children, (I have three ages 11, 8, and 3), but am still a little leary as she is huge (97 lbs), and I will have to house train her as she has been kept in a outside dog run all her life. I have two small mini schnauzers, (9lbs and 14lbs), will she do ok with them? I know all dogs are different, but how are the breed standards with other pets? Any advice? Please dont send links as I have probably already read it as I like to do my homework, but I am looking for stories and advice from owners, or previous owners. Also any one have pictures of their Cane Corso???? Thanks a million!!!!!!
Border-line puppy mill? This girl I know has a dog kennel business. She has about 40 adult dogs locked up in cages. The cages arent too small or anything and they have a dog house in the cage for shelter. She feeds them and makes sure they get vet care and shots, etc. But what I have a problem with is that 1) they get no exercise. 2) they are just for breeding. She starts breeding them as soon as they are old enough and breeds them as soon as they are ready again after they have the puppies. 3) She takes the puppies away from the mother when they are only 3-4 weeks old and sells them. I know its not what people picture as a "puppy mill" but isn't this kind of getting close? She is selling like 200 puppies a year. It is strictly for the money and not for the love of the dogs.
